Captain Alphaeus
Barbour House
Built in 1904, this house originally belonged to
Captain Alphaeus Barbour, one of Benjamin Barbour's
sons. The Barbours were considered one of the most
important sealing families in Bonavista Bay. Fourteen
of the descendants of Benjamin Barbour became captains
and ten of those were sealing captains Today it
serves as an interpretation center for the community
and local tourists interested in the development
of Newtown
When Starlings
Sing
The majesty of the architecture in St. John's is
not lost in Laurie Leehane's work. The special light
here can sometimes create magic, casting shadows
and striking the elements, creating an atmosphere
of mystery, sadness and grandeur.
Dawn's
Reflections
This image was viewed early morning from a house
on Queens Road, downtown St. John's. It was a magical
moment with the light coming through the harbour
and striking the rooftops as they descend down the
hill.
